Can I send in treats for my child's birthday?
We love to celebrate birthdays in our class. We have 21 students. Please be
sure to send in napkins. As part of a school wide initative, we are
encouraging you to send in healthy treats.
--------------------------------------
What time is lunch?
Our recess begins at 10:30 and lunch starts at 11:00.
--------------------------------------
Do the children have a snack daily?
Yes, students will have 10 minutes each afternoon for a snack. Please send
in nutritious snacks that can be consumed during this time frame. Students
often enjoy bringing a drink from home as well.
--------------------------------------
How much help should I give my child with homework?
Homework is intended to be a review of learned skills. You may need to help
with directions and guidance in getting started. If your child is spending
more than 30 minutes "on-task", please let me know so we can work together
to help your child.
Your children will take their views on homework from you. Emphasize that
all schoolwork is important by checking over their work and signing the
assignment pad nightly.
--------------------------------------
Should I still read to my child ?
Definitely! Reading a book that is more challenging to your child can
improve their vocabulary. Discussing the book will enhance students'
comprehension skills. Listening to adults read helps promote fluency.

What is Buddy Reading?
Our Buddy Reading Program is an at home reading program that supports your
child's literacy education. It encourages reading 20 nights a month for 20
minutes at a time with an adult or older sibling. Buddy reading builds on
the reading skills we practice daily in class. As stated in the question
above, there are many positive reasons for reading with an older buddy. It
also helps to promote a life long love of reading. As the year progresses,
many students may want to have some independent reading time. They are
welcome to read on their own, but some buddy reading time should still be
encouraged.
Each month students receive a buddy reading calendar to track their monthly
reading. At the end of the month, students should return the signed
calendar to me for a buddy reading certificate and a prize from the treasure
chest. Students who complete buddy reading every month for the entire
school year will receive a special reward.
--------------------------------------
We cannot find the Buddy Reading Calendar. What should we do?
No need to worry. Parents, please just write me a note letting me know your
child has completed the reading for the month.

Who are the classroom Teaching Assistants?
We are very fortunate to be working with Mrs. Morano and Mrs. Calta this
year.
