How long should homework take every night?
Homework at the third grade level is geared towards one hour. The nightly
math sheet should take approximately fifteen minutes. The nightly spelling
activity should take approximately fifteen minutes. Finally, the nightly
reading activity should take approximately fifteen minutes.
What if homework exceeds one hour for my child?
At the beginning of the school year you may find that homework takes your
child longer than one hour to complete. More than likely this is due to the
fact that your child needs to get back into the swing of going to school and
doing homework after being on vacation for two months of the summer.
Usually
once your child becomes familiar with the homework routine: math, spelling
and reading every night, he/ she will build his/ her pace and will finish
within one hour.
If your child continues to exceed one hour for homework completion by mid-
October please drop Mrs. Moschetto a note so that this issue may addressed.
Homework can also be disscussed at the parent-teacher conference in
November.
What should I do if I have a concern about my child's education?
Please drop me a note or give me a call at school immediately. You may
write
a note in the student planner as I check these every morning. Or you can
write a separate note and clip it to the student planner. I will either
write
you a response or give you a call within twenty-four hours.
How are birthdays celebrated in Room #42?
Just drop Mrs. Moschetto a note at least a day in advance if you would like
to send in a treat for your child's birthday. The easiest things to send in
and pass out in the classroom are cupcakes, Munchkins or individually
wrapped
treats such as Little Debbies. If you would like to send in juice please
send in juice boxes or Capri Suns. If you send in a bottle of juice please
remember to also send in cups. Napkins are needed as well. There are
twenty-
six students in our class.
Is there a snack time in class?
Yes. Everyday we try to have snack. Please understand that there may be a
day when we are running late and must cancel snack. Students may bring in
something healthy, quick and easy to eat such as pretzels, popcorn,
crackers,
fruit rolls or fruit snacks. Please do not send in yogurt, fruit cups,
applsauce or anything that requires a spoon. There is only ten minutes
alloted for snack and these items reqire more time to eat. They are also
very messy. Go-Gurt or squeezable yogurt is fine. If you send in a drink
for
snack please send a juice box or a Capri Sun.
How can I check my child's progress?
Work will be sent home weekly in the Friday Folder. Please check over yor
child's work, empty out the folder and sign the attached sheet to verify
that
you looked at everything. Any "Redo" or "Finish" papers yo should have your
child complete and return in the Friday Folder. All folders must be
returned
to school every Monday morning.
What should I do if my child is absent?
If your child is absent for one day there is no need to request work. He/
She can make up the work the next day. If your child will be absent for
more
than a day you may reqest your child's work by calling the main office
before
noon that day. Your child will be given a full week from when he/ she
returns from the absence to complete all missed work. Please remember to
send in a note/ excuse for the absence when your child returns.
What should I do if my child is late to school?
Please send your child to school with a note explaining the reason for the
tardiness. When your child enters the building he/ she must report to the
main office to hand in the note and get his/ her attendance card before
coming to the classroom.
