![]() MathOur math curriclum is quite extensive. Several units of study are intoduced in 2nd grade that lay the foundation for further study in later grades. One of the most challenging areas of our math currciulum this year is mastering addition and subtraction with re-grouping and borrowing. Success and mastery in this area is challenging, but we will work on this skill throughout the school year. One way you can help your student is to make flashcards. You should practice addition and subtraction throughout the school year. Beginning in October, students will be assessed on completing simple addition & subtraction problems in a very limited amount of time (1-2 minutes). Be sure to check out some of the math games on Links & Fun Stuff page to help with mastery of this skill. Units of study: Numbers (counting, comparing, skip counting, reading & writing numbers up to 999) Graphing (bar and pictographs) Addition and Subtraction (single & double-digit) Place Value & Patterns Money Time Measurement (nonstandard units, customary, and metric) Geometry (plane & solid figures, congruent shapes, symmetry, slips, flips, and turns) Fractions Problem solving skills are taught throughout each unit of study. Additionally, word problems are emphasized throughout our math curriculum. We will learn a systematic way to solve these problems and also learn important mathematical vocabulary that is required to help us solve such word problems. ![]() |
