September 14-October 2
We have been so busy. Here are a few of the things that we have accomplished during the past 3 weeks.
We've read together 3 Scholastic News Magazines (Constitution, Ready to learn, Safety Heros)
We have reviewed a letter each day M-Th. We have reviewed:
A, C, D, G, H, I, J, L, M, O, and T. Each day we read a poem related to our letter, practice writing the letter with the correct letter formation, and read words with the letters we've learned so far.
The children have learned how to use many different materials for center time. These include:
Play dough
Wooden Pieces (we use these to form Capital letters)
Stamp a Letter (Like a magna doodle but with magnetic wooden pieces to form the letter then write over the letters with a magnetic pen.)
Listening Center Our first book to listen and read is How Do Dinosaurs Go To School.
Magnetic Letters for forming words and sentences.
White Boards for practicing words and letters we know.
Read the Charts The children can reread the poems we read each day on charts around the room.
Read a Book
These are just a few of our choices when the teacher is working with a small group or with individual students in reading.
On Monday September 28th, we went to see the performance of Bully Busters by the Puppet People. They were great!!! We learned what to do if people are bullying us or our friends.
The Puppet People will be back to perform The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for our Fall Festival on October 16th.
We began our first science unit - Properties of Matter. We have explored the properties of color and size with buttons. Then we had a classroom scavenger hunt to explore the property of shape. We had a grand time.
The children's favorite time of the day is of course Lunch and recess. But they also love Quiet Time during this time I play either quiet or classical music and the children have 5 minutes to wind down and relax after recess.
We have learned a few more morning meeting games including:
Circle Round the Zero
Jump Jim Joe
A Chicken and a Chicken
The Children has learned several Math choices as well:
Top It
Rock Paper Scissors Tally game
Roll to 50

These are just a few of the things that we have done so far this year.
