What does my child need for Spanish class?

A Spanish to English dictionary is very important!
Students should also have a place to keep worksheets (a folder)
as well as a place to take notes (a notebook/loose leaf paper)
and a writing utensil (pen or pencil) with them everyday!

Does my child really not have any homework?

High School Spanish Myth #1 - BUSTED!
There is homework EVERY night! Although there may not be a
written assignment, students should read and study
notes/worksheets every night.

Is there any extra credit?

Extra credit is offered throughout the year at various times, but
is not always guaranteed, so students should not rely on extra
credit to bring up their averages.

Can my son/daughter make up/retake assessments?

Homework - No. I do not accept late homework. The reason behind
this is because I don't give busy work. Each assignment
strengthens the skills we've built in class and must be done by
the next class meeting. Then, we start class by going over the
previous night's homework after our warm up exercise.

Tests/Quizzes - No. They can not be retaken. I offer several
different assessments over the typical 4 week period of time in
which we cover a unit. Therefore there are several different
opportunities for students to show me that they have mastered the
set of skills necessary for successfully learning that unit's
material.

Students who are absent for a Test/Quiz have 5 days in which to
make it up. If they are not made up within 5 days, the grade
will automatically be a 0.

Projects - Can be handed in late, with a 10 point penalty per
day. Not accepted after 5 days.

Any work missed due to an illegal absence will receive a 0.

What should I do if my child is absent?

If you know of the absence ahead of time, please feel free to
have your son/daughter ask for the work he/she will be missing.
You can also contact the guidance office, and they will notify
me, so that I can put some work together so that they do not fall
behind.

If it is a one day absence, students should check with me, I
leave worksheets/notes for them for the days they have missed.
The handouts might also be available on the HANDOUTS page of
TeacherWeb.

If it is a prolonged absence, again please contact the guidance
office so that I can put together some work for your son/daughter
so that they do not fall behind.

Any assessments missed must be made up within 5 days of the
student
returning. If not, they will automatically receive a 0.

Any work missed due to an illegal absence will also receive a 0.
