Here is the message for the week of November 9th. There is no school for
students this Wednesday, November 11th because of Veterans Day. Please note
there is a half day of school this Monday with dismissal at 11:30 because of
Parent Teacher Conferences.
The students will continue to meet with Mr. Venier for a unit on the
interdependence of plants and animals this week. This unit will conclude in
about one week. In math we are beginning to work on an operations unit with
whole numbers and money. This unit includes addition and subtraction of large
numbers, as well as estimation strategies and mental math. In social studies we
are learning about the natural resources and regions of New York State. A
vocabulary quiz will take place Monday. Please refer to class notes, the
textbook, and the study guide to help your child prepare for the quiz. Soon
we will begin a unit on the history of New York that includes Native Peoples
and why they came to the area.
Information about a fall book report has been sent home. Your child should be
selecting an interesting fiction book to read. I will be having many book
conferences with the students this week. Please support your child by
encouraging him or her to read for about 20 minutes each day. Students can
read independently, read aloud to you, or take turns reading with you. Thank
you in advance for your help with the Fall Book Report. The due date is
Wednesday, December 16th.
Have a good week.
Sincerely,
Ms. Thomas
