7th grade
We are currently reading a suspense novel by R.L. Stine, Hit & Run. Students are learning note taking and prediction skills as well as new vocabulary words. In addition to our class novel, we have begun an intensive study on vocabulary skills. Students have worked on categorization skills to help make associations with new words, synonyms, antonyms, figurative language, analogies, prefixes, suffixes, root words, etc. We will also be working on using context clues, making inferences, responding to literature in short response, listening skills, and comparing two pieces of work in preparation for the upcoming ELA exam.
8th grade
We have just finished reading a great suspense novel, Killing Mr. Griffin, by Lois Duncan. Students are now working on an assessment where they can choose three ways to react to the book and show they understood it. We will soon be working on various skills to help prepare them for the 8th grade ELA exam that is quickly approaching. Using context clues, making inferences, responding to literature in short response, listening skills, and comparing two pieces of work are just a few of these skills.
