About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
This year is going to be my ninth year teaching at Arthur S. May. I taught second grade for one year and this is my eighth year in third. I must say I love teaching third grade! From September to June, we are learning and experiencing all different kinds of things. I am a graduate of SUNY Cortland and completed my Master's at Mount Saint Mary College. My dual degree is in Special Education and Literacy. I now live in Poughkeepsie, but I grew up in Pleasant Valley. I am proud to say I went through the Arlington District for my education. Being the oldest sibling of four children, I am followed by a sister and twin brothers. I also have two dogs, Daisy and Maggie, who are both wonderful and playful pets. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also like to read and bake in my spare time. I enjoy many outside activities such as walking, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, gardening, and camping. I used to be a champion horseback rider and I owned two horses named Callie and Lucky. I have a lot of trophies and ribbons. I had to work very hard to accomplish my goals. I am always looking to learn new things and continue my education.
Mission Label:
Mission
My mission is to provide a safe,"hands-on," and challenging learning environment for each child. I strive for each child to reach for and meet their individual goals. I do this through using differentiated instruction. I have high expectations of all of my students because I know that with the support and guidance from teachers and parents, any student can achieve their own personal success. Constructivism is an educational based theory that I strongly believe in. Students must construct their own knowledge in order for it to be meaningful and lasting to them. As a teacher, it is my mission to provide an environment where students feel safe, empowered, and valued. I feel it is important to teach using different teaching models so each child's learning style is incorporated. By providing this type of atmosphere, students are able to feel confident and allow themselves to form their own unique educational experiences throughout their academic career.
