We will satisfy our curiosity about objects in the night sky and what lies beyond the Earth. You will earn ½ credit for physical setting science. Your grade is based on projects, computer labs, quizzes, class participation, attendance, and observation homework assignments. Your final exam grade will be composed of an open-notes cumulative exam and a presentation of a final project at Community Science Night. We will have an optional evening field trip to Vassar Observatory. What can you expect to do in this class? « Starry Night planetarium program « Student-driven activities to learn more about astronomy (using the textbook and/or internet for resources) « Discussions of current events and discoveries in astronomy « Projects (individual and group) « End-of-week quiz What topics will we study? « Apparent motions and cycles (Sun, stars, and moon) « Constellations & the Night Sky « Planets in Our Solar System « Space Exploration « Stars & Galaxies Policies: « No food, hats, headphones, or cell phones. Closed drinks can be kept on the floor. « Be on time. Every 3rd unexcused tardy is reported to the office. « If absent, you have a maximum of one week from your return to make up all work. « Labs, class work and homework are not accepted late. « Projects will be accepted up to 3 days late with a 10% penalty per day.
