Reading
The Student will:
- be familiar with and enjoy various types of literature (e.g. mystery, poetry, biography)
- demonstrates an ability it read orally with expression
- begin developing reference skills (dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, etc.)
- increase word attack skills and use of context clues
- use a variety of strategies to gain meaning (context clues, ponics, structural analysis, syntax, punctuation cues and illustrations)

Math The Student will:
- add and subtract up to four digit numbers
- understand plce value by reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers through four digits
- round to the nearest ten, hundred, dollar
- estimate sums, differences and products by rounding
- count money and change
- tell time to the minute and use a calendar
- learn multiplication and division facts through 10 X 10
- multiply up to one digit by three digits
- identify shapes, segments and angles
- locate number pairs on a grid
- use customary and metric units to measure capacity, length and weight
- find perimeter, area, and volume
- investigate probablity
- understand fractions as part of a whole
- add and subtract simple decimals
- problem solve, using various strategies to solve work problems

Writing The Student will:
- be able to express personal feelings, reactions and interests
- Write a fiction story
- create an account of real events and observations
- explain in writing how to do a task

In grammar and usage
The student will:
- use capital letters to begin sentences and for proper nouns
- use proper punctuation
- construct meaningful sentences with noun/verb agreement
- identify nouns, pronouns,verbs and adjectives
- construct paragraphs limited to one topic

- locate equator, poles and prime meridian
- use directional notation
- read and interpret maps
- understand similarities and differences of people in various communities

Computer:
The student will:
- learn to log on and off the file server
- continue to improve word processing skills
- use encarta to find information
- increase knowledge of geography by using Zip Zap Map
Science/Themes The Student will learn appropriate concepts from the following curriculum areas:

- plan life cycles
- bouyancy: an exptension of float/sink
- birds: characteristics and habitats
