Mission
The function of Special Education is to provide the opportunity for students having disabilities to reach their full potential. Given that no human being is perfect, we recognize that all of us have areas of weakness, some in areas affecting academic success. Special Education's purpose is to provide a fair "playing field" by remediating weak areas when possible, teaching coping skills, and providing academic support. In high school, remediation has often peaked, so the tactic is usually to reteach material in a more individualized manner, trying to find the special technique appropriate to help each student understand the subject matter. Resource Room provides a small supportive environment where students may have material explained, questions answered, tests administered, projects begun, and subject matter reviewed. All education is a partnership among student, parents, and teachers. Students, as they age, become more and more responsible for their learning. It is our role as parents and teachers to provide the tools and support, but the student must be an active participant in the process. Only together can we reach a successful result!
