Should I send a snack in daily with my child?
Yes! Although not required, students will be given a chance to eat their
snacks during writer's workshop. Our lunch is later in the day and a healthy
snack helps keep students motivated and gives the brain a boost. I just ask
you to remember to be sensitive to the student who has a severe nut allergy
and try to refrain from sending snacks that contain any type of nut.
--------------------------------------
What are some healthy snacks that I could send in?
Healthy snacks are low in calories and sugar but high in protein and/or whole
grains. Some examples of healthy snacks include but are not limited to:
fruits, vegetables (with or without dip), yogurt, applesauce, popcorn,
pretzels, rice cakes, hummus, cheese and crackers, whole
grain chips and salsa.
Please remember about our student with a severe allergy to nuts. I would
prefer if you did not send any peanut butter or snacks with nuts into the
classroom.

Can I send a snack in for my child's birthday?
Of course!!!! Birthdays are important and need to be celebrated. There are
two things that I ask:
1. Please let me know in advance that you will be sending a treat in -
there are some days that may not be the best to celebrate on due to changes
in the schedule.
2. Please send a list of ingredients in with the treat. If there are or you
think there might be any nuts I need to know.
Students who bring in snacks for their birthdays will share
them at the end of their lunch period. We will be sure to sing and
say "thank you" for sharing his/her special day with us. Just remember
students are only allowed to share their treat with the class. Students will
not be allowed to pass out treats to other teachers or staff in the
building. We will celebrate each birthday regardless of treats or no treats!
--------------------------------------
How will you celebrate summer birthdays?
We will celebrate the numerous summer birthdays at the end of the year!

Can I pass out party invitations in class?
Unfortunately I do not allow students to pass out invitations in class for
two reasons. 1. It prevents hurt feelings of students who are not invited.
2. Sometimes the invitation never makes it to the parent.
If you would like to invite classmates to a party please mail the invitation
or call the student you wish to invite. At our curriculum night I will hand
out an information form for parents to leave their address and phone number
on. I will distribute the list to all the parents. If you wish to not have
your information distributed just leave the sheet blank. If further
assistance is needed, please contact me.
--------------------------------------
How do I know if school is closed, delayed, or an emergency dismissal?
There are a couple of ways you can get important information regarding the
status of the school.
-The school website at www.arlingtonschools.org
-Sign up for newsflash on the West Road web page. Emergency messages will be
sent to you via text message or email
--------------------------------------
Do you require cursive on all assignments?
Cursive is an important skill that needs to be practiced. We have a cursive
workbook that will use in class. All final copies of papers and projects
need to be done in cursive. All spelling tests are required to be done in
cursive. Rough drafts and class notes do not need to be done in cursive.

How do I get the work missed on a day my child is absent?
The best way to get any classwork or homework assignments if your child is
absent is to call the office before 11:00AM and request that work be
collected and sent home. You can have a "buddy" (a close friend or neighbor)
get the homework for your child at the end of the day or you can come to the
school after 3:15 to pick it up in the office. You can also email me first
thing in the morning requesting work for your child. Please let me know
early in the day so I am able to get things ready to be sent home.
