Periods 1 and 5 were interupted by Fire Drills...
We discussed the concept of DENSITY of a solid... specifically how to measure an IRREGULARLY SHAPED solid with an overflow can, a graduated cylinder and a triple beam balance.
We also went over the "Density Drill" worksheet if they recieved it last week.

Hmwk:
If students are done with their mineral measurements (irregular solids) they are to calculate the densities of each sample...
If not finished with measures (period 5) ~ Make sure that the density drill wkst is done.

Activity ~ determine the mass and volume of several mineral samples.  This is to be done in preparation for our study of DENSITY next week.

Measuring Length... Make sure you USE DECIMALS only NO FRACTIONS... AND UNITS must be included in all answers.
Measuring Volume w/ Graduated Cylinder... Check the Scale... what do you have to count by to get from one marked number to the next... Measure from the BOTTOM of the meniscus...
Using formulas in Science... what steps are required:  Write the formula, Substitute in known values, DO THE MATH (use a calculator to check work), Writed ANSWER WITH UNITS... BOX IT!
