I am in my 22nd year teaching in the Arlington School District, with
20 years teaching second grade at Overlook Primary, as well as two years
teaching elementary remedial math. Prior experience includes teaching
fourth grade in South Dakota, fourth and second grade for the Department of
Defense Schools Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany, and teaching high school math
in Marysville, California.
I grew up in South Dakota. I had the great experience of working in the
Black Hills (Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain) during summers off from
college. My family all still live in South Dakota, so I try to go
back "home" every summer. I've lived in the Mid Hudson Valley for 25 years,
and absolutely love the beautiful scenery and proximity to New York City!
I am the very proud mom of two grown children. Amber is 25 and she loves to
travel. After graduating from college, Amber spent over a year living in
China, teaching English to elementary school age children. She is currently
living in Honduras, Central America, working as a Peace Corps volunteer.
Amber will be in Honduras for the next two years, working with children from
ages preschool through high school.
Jeremy is 22. He will graduate from RPI in December with a degree in
Electrical Engineering. He is currently job hunting, and hopes to find a
job in Manhattan. Jeremy's also starting to get the "travel bug". I guess
that's a characteristic we all have, as I also love to travel, as well as
spend time on the beach, read books, play the piano, and go to
Broadway plays.
My mission for the class is to ensure that all children are given every
opportunity to have a successful, positive learning experience. I realize
that all children learn at different rates as well as in different ways;
thus I will implement different methods and strategies in my teaching to
reach out to all of my students. I want my students to realize that they
are all unique and special individuals who are loved, cared for, and
respected for who they are.
