Poetry Corner

    

Adjective: a word that describes.

 

                   Ex: sour, funny, big, small, furry, weird.

 

Verb:         a word that shows action.

 

                   Ex: Kicking, throwing, running, pushing.

 

Noun:  a person, place, or thing.

 

                   Ex: mall, Mr. Benante, cat, computer, X-Box.

 

 

 

Cinquain Poetry: poems are five lines long with a certain number of syllables or words in each.

 

Syllable Cinquain

Line 1:                 Title                                                  2 syllables

Line 2:                 Description of title                           4 syllables

Line 3:                 Action about the title                       6 syllables

Line 4:                 Feeling about the title                     8 syllables

Line 5:                 Synonym for the title                       2 syllables

 

Synonym: words with similar meanings.

 

 

Word Cinquain

Line 1:                 Title                                                  1 word

Line 2:                 Description of title                           2 words

Line 3:                 Action about the title                       3 words

Line 4:                 Feeling about the title                     4 words

Line 5:                 Synonym for title                             1 word

 

 

 

 

Haiku Poetry

 

Haiku is Japanese poetry about nature.  It is only three lines long.

 

Line 1:                 5 syllables

 

Line 2:                 7 syllables

 

Line 3:                 5 syllables

 

Example:             Garden

                   Vegetables and fruits

                   Strawberries are yummy fruit

                   Harvest our garden
