PTA General Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2009

7:08  Call to order by PTA Co-President Kelly Williams
•	Motion to approve September’s minutes
•	Accepted by Claudette Mack and Eva Zuckerman

President’s Report:
•	Thank you to Beth Toombs, Ann-Marie Howard, Ursula Woods, and Miss 
Phyllis for all the help for a successful Room Parent Tea

Treasurer’s Report:
•	Membership as of 9/30 300 members
$1,050.00 will be paid in October for national & state dues
•	$146  in notepads
•	Paid Arlington Council dues of $250
•	IRS Update:
1.	CPA has sent a certified letter to the IRS asking for abatement of 
fees
2.	The corrected 990E2 is being sent to the IRS by the end of this week.
•	Budget Update:
1.	The stamps for Walkway Over Hudson was removed from the budget as it 
was paid last year.
2.	The Marquis budget amount has been corrected from $5,000 to reflect 
$7381.87, the amount raised for it.

Secretary’s Report:
•	Update on Committee Notebooks, almost all passed out
•	Looking for a PARP Chair

Corresponding Secretary’s Report:
•	Thank You Cards sent to Barton Orchards for Apple Donations and 
Babysitters for the Tea

Council Report:
•	10/8 MST First Meeting, being held 4/24
•	3/20 Arts Fair
•	Taconic PTA Conference, Substance Abuse Speaker
•	Field Trips, not unless you have a grant
•	Volunteer Services, Melissa Erlebacher will put press releases 
together
•	Searching for New Supt.
•	BOCES vote on 12/1 to build on Salt Point campus
•	Mr. Kessler was in a race!

Principal’s Report:
•	6 fire drills, 1 bus drill
•	Fire Prevention Day 10/16 w/ Smoke House for Intermediate Grades
•	Open Houses done
•	Picture Day, Good job Carol, despite glitches out of our hands!
•	CARES Assembly, scheduled for 10/9


Teacher’s Report, Mrs. Arnold
•	Cares Report
•	Assessments currently ongoing
•	Student Council
1.	Stuff the Bus from 11/16-20 at Stop and Shop Route 9
2.	Yoplait Yogurt lids collecting til 12/09
3.	Spirit Day 
Date not confirm.  Crazy Hat possible
4.	Hats on for Cancer:  Children will be asked to do good deed 
(something above & beyond normal chores) ea. Deed will earn .25, max. $1.  
Not a competition, Tough Economic Times
5.	Valentines for Vets
6.	School Store:  Council will vote

Committee Reports:
•	Halloween Bingo:  Gina Ragusa gave Flyers
Needs Bakers, Volunteers, cards are $1 for those who don’t dress
Pizza/Hotdogs served, Spirit Wear will be sold
•	Holiday Fair, Beth Toombs: 12/4 only 4 to 8:30
•	Hands on Science: 12/5
•	Arts in Ed. Claudette Mack
First Grade Residency, 2 parents plus room parent to help Mrs. McPuppet
•	Book Fair: Set for first week of November
•	Box Tops:  Bridgette Mare will chair, currently being trained
•	Membership:  Ann-Marie Howard: 327 members 189 Families, 26 Faculty 
members.  Reminders sent
•	Reflections:   Cris Lemuix, flier to come home 10/9.  Making it 
tangible
No entries last year for Film/Video; 3 finalists from every category move on.
Workshop to generate excitement 10/28
Judges are professionals out of district; still searching: deadline 11/09; 
•	Picture Day:  Carol Spendley, kids did great.  Not happy with Life 
Touch.  Meeting to be held concerning sending inexperienced photographers
•	Ways and Means:  delivered by Kelly Williams:  City Books 202 sold 
$1616.00
Several still out, several teachers did not receive books

REFLECTIONS “Beauty Is...” National Competition



ENTRIES DUE: Mon. November 9th
WHERE:       Place artwork with entry forms in the Reflections 
             Box in the VFES Main Office

CEREMONY:    Wed. December 9th at 6:30pm. Snow date: December 16th
             Refreshments will be served.  Come celebrate our 
kids’
             creativity!
