How many books may a student borrow?
First and second graders take out one book on each library visit. Third
graders take out two books after the second marking period. Fourth graders may
take out 2 books and fifth graders take out 3 books . Students must return
all of the books they have checked out before they may take another one
out. However, if they are working on a research project, we make an
exception to this rule. They may take out other books up to their grade level
limit. If students want to exchange their book before their regular scheduled
library visit, they may visit the library between 2:40 - 3:00.
How will I know my child's library day?
It is every six days. Please check the Vail Farm Elementary calendar. Teacher
usually have a schedule posted and will remind students which "Day" they have
library.
Do you accept book donations?
Yes!!! We are always happy to add to the collection. However, it may take
some time before your book gets processed and is shelf ready. If we have a
too many copies of the book, we will offer the books to teachers for their
classroom collection.
What is an AUP?
It is the "Acceptable Use Policy" that parents sign giving their child
permission to use district computers. If the office does not have a copy of
this form, your child may not use a computer in their classroom or in the
library.
How often will the students use computers in the library?
It depends on several factors. Students will learn to locate books using the
OPAC computers when they come to the media center. Depending on the grade
level, they will learn research skills, locating information on the internet
and become familiar with district approved software.
What happens if my child forgets his book on his library day?
It is best to have your children put their library books in their school bags
the night before their scheduled library visit. This eliminates "forgotten
books". If students forget their books, they should return to the library
ASAP to exchange their book between 2:40-3:00. Their book is due on the next
scheduled library day.
Do you want volunteers in the library?
Yes, Please give me a call at 227-3754, or email me at kfowler@acsdny.org. I
will be happy to speak to you about a mutual time and date.
What happens if a book is damaged?
If a book is damaged students may not borrow another book until the book is
paid for. We will send a notice in the mail to the parents that the book is
damaged If you have any questions, do not hesitate to discuss this matter
with me at 227-3754. When we receive the money for the book ,
students may borrow from the library again.
