| I will use this page to give a brief overview of the curriculum that we will
be covering for the week. I will do my best to update this page at the
beginning of each week. Approximate test dates will also be provided on
this page. I will try to be as specific as possible with these dates, but
it will depend on whether we have covered the necessary curriculum previous
to the test. I will try to provide the specific test date on the "News
Flash" page which may be updated more than once a week. Homework
assignments will not be posted on the website. It is your child's
responsibility to make sure that all of the assignments are written down in
his/her assignment pad and that all of the necessary materials are brought
home. Since I am using this website, I will not be using the "School Call"
phone system.
Here is the update for the week of November 17th. Since next week is only a
two day school week, I will not update this page until after the
Thanksgiving break. We have finished reading "Skinnybones", although we
have a bit more work to do on the book. We will then look at some Native
American legends. We will finish our work with the graphing and data
analysis chapter in math on Friday. The test will be next Tuesday, November
25th. Please continue to study and review the math facts with your child.
Our daily quizzes will continue. Even if your child has finished the
quizzes, it is still a good idea to review the facts every now and then as
our next chapter will focus on multiplication. In social studies, we will
continue with the unit on the Native Americans of New York. Science (states
of matter) will finish with Mrs. Thomas on Friday. After the break, the
students will begin seeing Mrs. Provost for a unit on energy. There is a
great website called "spellingcity.com" that you might want to use to help
your child study. This is a free site, and there are also fun games that can
also help your child learn the spelling words. I have included the link to
this site under the "Links" section of this website.
The November book order is going home on Monday, November 17th and will be
due next Monday, November 24th. I will be handing out the December/Holiday
order forms the first week we are back from the break. I will have them due
on that first Friday (December 5th) since I want the orders to be here in
time for the holidays, and since the orders have been taking a long time to
get here from Scholastic.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to meet with many of you over the last few
weeks, and I look forward to meeting the with rest of you this week. This
final conference day is on Tuesday with the same early dismissal time of
11:30. Finally, I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy
Thanksgiving! Enjoy your time together!
Sincerely,
Mr. Venier
