All students in Math Resource Room 10 are in Ms. Turner's period 4 or 6 Algebra 1B class or Mrs. Fiege's period 2 or 5 Algebra 1B class. This page will contain information pertaining to these classes, including upcoming quizzes and tests.
Homework is usually assigned every night; there may be time in math class to start it. Homework is very important as it reinforces the content that was covered in class that day.
Quizzes and tests alternate with a quiz one week followed by a test the following week. Generally, they are given every Friday with a review lesson on the day before the test. Quizzes cover recent content (content taught since the last test/quiz) while tests are cumulative and can include everything covered since the beginning of the school year.
Study for quizzes and tests by reviewing and redoing problems from the review sheets and homework. Formulas and definitions need to be memorized. A good way to do this is to make flash cards, and add to the deck as new formulas and definitions are taught. Save these cards to use when preparing for the Integrated Algebra Regents exam in June.
Organize math notes (handouts from class) in a 3-ring binder. All handouts should be dated and kept in chronological order in the binder. All tests and quizzes should be kept in a separate section of the same binder as these serve as excellent reviews for upcoming quizzes and tests.
Daily and prompt attendance is extremely important in math class as each lesson builds upon the previous lesson. Every other Thursday is a review for a test the following day, while tests/quizzes are given every Friday.
Extra help is available after school by appointment with Mrs. Peifer. Ms. Turner and Mrs. Fiege offer after school help as well. In addition, students may use the Math Learning Center (MLC) any free period (lunch, study hall) during the day with a pass from their math teacher.
Calculators are absolutely necessary. Students should have their calculators with them at all times. Taking a test or quiz without a calculator puts the student at a disadvantage while not having them during class lessons prevents full participation in class. A Texas Instruments graphing calculator, model TI-83 or higher, is required in Algebra 1B. Contact your child's guidance counselor if purchasing a calculator is not possible at this time.
Grade Sheets are distributed to all of my Math Resource Room students. They are expected to keep this sheet in their math notebook with their tests and quizzes. As quizzes and tests are returned, they should record the grade on their grade sheet so that they always know their current average in Algebra 1B.
