I will use this page to give a brief overview of the curriculum that we will
be covering for the week. I will do my best to update this page at the
beginning of each week. Approximate test dates will also be provided on
this page. I will try to be as specific as possible with these dates, but
it will depend on whether we have covered the necessary curriculum previous
to the test. I will try to provide the specific test date on the "News
Flash" page which may be updated more than once a week. Homework
assignments will not be posted on the website. It is your child's
responsibility to make sure that all of the assignments are written down in
his/her assignment pad and that all of the necessary materials are brought
home.
Here is the update for the weeks of December 14th and 21st. This will be the
last message of 2009. We have a busy week and a half ahead of us with many
assessments as we try to wrap up the calendar year.
In reading, we have been reading Native American legends. We read "Legend of
the Bluebonnet" and our next one will be "Little Firefly". As for
math, my original plan was to have a test on Friday for the basic
multiplication and division unit. However, the snow day last week threw off
that plan. The test will now be on Monday, December 21st. There will also
be a vocabulary quiz, but I am now going to hold off on that quiz until after
the break as we have other assessments to take care of first. In social
studies, we will continue looking at the Native Americans of New York. Our
work will focus mainly on the Iroquois. We will finish the work in the book
this week. Therefore, the vocabulary quiz will be on Friday, and the unit
test will be next Tuesday, December 22nd. We will continue looking at Native
American life after the holiday break, even though the assessments will be
completed. In science, the children will continue to see Mrs. Provost for a
unit on energy. There will be a science quiz next Wednesday, December 23rd.
Mrs. Cantor, a retired 4th grade Arlington teacher, will finish her work
with the students on helping them focus more. This Monday, December 14th,
will be her last session. I would like to thank Mrs. Cantor for her
wonderful work and for the time she spent with our class. Finally, I would
like to wish everyone the happiest of holidays! Enjoy your family, have fun,
and be safe!
Sincerely,
Mr. Venier
