I will use this page to give a brief overview of the curriculum that we will
be covering for the week. I will do my best to update this page at the
beginning of each week. Approximate test dates will also be provided on
this page. I will try to be as specific as possible with these dates, but
it will depend on whether we have covered the necessary curriculum previous
to the test. I will try to provide the specific test date on the "News
Flash" page which may be updated more than once a week. Homework
assignments will not be posted on the website. It is your child's
responsibility to make sure that all of the assignments are written down in
his/her assignment pad and that all of the necessary materials are brought
home.
Here is the update for the week of November 9th. We have another three and a
half day week with our second round of parent/teacher conferences on Monday
and Veteran's Day on Wednesday. The students have continued their work on a
personal narrative writing piece. We will wrap the writing up at the
beginning of the week, and then we will get back to our reading
book, "Skinnybones". As for math, we will be working on graphing and data
analysis. In social studies, we will be a looking at the Native Americans of
New York. The students will continue to see Ms. Thomas for a unit on the
states of matter.
One thing that I forgot to mention last week is that we are working on a
program called mindfulness. Mrs. Cantor, a retired 4th grade Arlington
teacher, is coming in twice a week to work with the students on helping them
focus more. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity as we were one of
only three classes to get chosen to participate in this program. This
program will go on until the middle of December. Ask your children about it.
Enjoy the lovely weather and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Venier
