Class News

Week of January 4, 2010!

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break!

The New Year will be off to a busy start! These are some of the things we will
be working on this week:

Language - We will be working on poetry, journal entries, and New Year's
resolutions this week.

Spelling - List #14 -- This list is posted on the spelling link of this web
site and on www.spellingcity.com. There will be a test on List #14 on Friday.

Math - We will be working with 7's, 8's and 9's multiplication facts this
week. We will be working with arrays, missing factors in number sentences,
and word problems. The children should try to visit aaamath.com to practice
their facts. We will have a multiplication mad minute on Friday. We will be
starting division at the end of the week!

Reading - In addition to meeting in guided reading groups, we will be
working with comprehension strategies and poetry comprehension. A test on
Maria Isabel is planned for Thursday.

*Parents, please be sure your children are reading at home each day. Please
discuss the material read with your child. This will help your child
understand what he/she has read and improve comprehension.*

Reading Comprehension Packet - "Rain Sizes" selection is due on Friday.

Social Studies - We continue to visit Mexico! We will be comparing the
culture of our country with the culture of Mexico. A Mexico test is planned
for Friday.

Passports - Thank you Mrs. Jermyn and Mrs. McAuley for your wonderful work on
assembling our passports which we will use all through the year! We are
enjoying our work with the passports.

OUR WINTER FESTIVAL - Thank you to the parents who were able to come in to
help with our festival! Thank you Mrs. Bernardi for helping to plan for and
organize this event and to Mrs. Jermyn, Mrs. Parascandola, Mrs. Ricker, Mrs.
Ryan, and Mrs. Tarkazikis who were also able to join us and help with the
festivities. Thank you to all the families who sent in festival supplies!
We couldn't have these special events without all the support and generosity
of our parents! Thank you!

Computer Lab - We are going to work with Google Earth this week.

Handwriting - We are almost finished with the lower case letters! We will be
doing lots of practice with words and letter connections.

Keyboarding - Parents, if possible please help your child to practice typing
skills on the keyboard. There is a new site on the links page for a fun way to
practice typing. We will be working on keyboarding during some computer time
as well, but students who practice extra can only get better!
