Class News

Week of November 16

This will be a shorter week for students. The students have half day on
Thursday and Friday because of parent conferences. These are some of the
things we will be working on this week!

In language, we will be starting a compare/contrast writing assignment. Mrs.
Neevel will be coming in to work on a Thanksgiving read-aloud and help us with
this assignment. We will also be working on plural nouns this week.

Spelling - The children will be introduced to List #10 on Monday. (The list is
posted on this Web page). The children will write the new words in their
spelling journal, and I will send home a typed list to use at home during the
week. Alphabetical order will be due on Tuesday, sentences will be due on
Wednesday. Test on Friday.

Math - We are starting multiplication!! A Topic 3 and 4 subtraction test is
planned for Wednesday.

Reading - Students will be working on comprehension selections and will be
reading nonfiction articles in Time For Kids. We will revisit how to read a
"Just Right" book for independent reading.

*Parents, please be sure your children are reading at home each day. Please
discuss the material read with your child. This will help your child
understand what he/she has read and improve comprehension.*

Reading Comprehension Packet - Our story about a pigeon named Silver is due on
Friday. The children will be working on root words and suffixes in this
reading selection.

AWARDS - The children are writing about the procedure on how to paint a still
life picture.

Social Studies - We will be working on resources and neighboring countries and
bodies of water of the United States. Students will use their knowledge of the
compass rose to help them with their map reading.

Science - We will be finishing the Great Plant Escape on laptops and will be
learning the meaning of deciduous and coniferous trees. Our Big Word Wall is
growing!

Handwriting - The children are having fun practicing their new cursive writing
skills! We are working on connecting lower case letters and learning to write
words in cursive!

Keyboarding - Parents, if possible please help your child to practice typing
skills on the keyboard. We will be working on this during some computer time
as well, but students who practice extra can only get better!
