Class News small medium large Week of December 14 We will be having a busy week in Room 33! Here are some of the things we will be working on! In language, we will be completing our writing project on "How to Build a Gingerbread House." Then we will actually build and decorate our gingerbread houses! We will also be working on final copies of our winter haiku poetry. These will be displayed on our bulletin board "A Winter Wonderland of Poetry." Spelling - List #13 will be introduced on Monday. Alphabetical order is due on Tuesday. This week the children will have 8 interesting sentences due on Wednesday. The children are encouraged to write a mixture of the four kinds of sentences we have studied -- statement, question, exclamation, and command. If possible the children should visit www.spellingcity.com to practice their words. This is an excellent site to visit to work with our spelling lists! Math - We will be working with 3's and 4's multiplication facts this week. We will be working with arrays, missing factors in number sentences, and word problems. The children should try to visit aaamath.com to practice their facts. We will have a subtraction mad minute on Thursday and a 3x's mad minute on Friday. Reading - In addition to meeting in guided reading groups, we will be working with comprehension strategies and poetry comprehension. A Brave Irene test is planned for Wednesday. Parents, please be sure your children are reading at home each day. Please discuss the material read with your child. This will help your child understand what he/she has read and improve comprehension. Reading Comprehension Packet - Our story about the American Alligator is due on Friday. AWARDS - We will be completing a planning page for our pinch pot acrostic poetry. This is related to the pottery activity the children are working on in Art Class. Social Studies - We are visiting Mexico! The children enjoyed working on a computer assignment last week. This week we will work on a landforms map and begin talking about the culture in Mexico. As we visit different communities around the world this year we will revisit the culture, people, and government in the United States. Passports - Thank you Mrs. Jermyn and Mrs. McAuley for your wonderful work on assembling our passports which we will use all through the year! We will be working with these this week! Science - We will continue our work with the study of the flower and will review photosynthesis. A quiz on these is planned for Thursday! Our final plant assessment is planned for NEXT week! Test alerts and study guides will be sent home for the quiz and the final assessment. Computer Lab - We are going to work with Google Earth this week. Handwriting - The children are having fun practicing their new cursive writing skills! We are working on connecting lower case letters and learning to write words in cursive! This week we will be practicing words with the lowercase n, m, x, g,y, and q. Keyboarding - Parents, if possible please help your child to practice typing skills on the keyboard. There is a new site on the links page for a fun way to practice typing. We will be working on keyboarding during some computer time as well, but students who practice extra can only get better! SNACKS - Our lunch is at 12:45, so the children should bring in a nutritious snack to have mid-morning. DECEMBER BIRTHDAYS!
