FAQ4The following are frequently asked questions. I hope this helps!
Our lunch begins at 12:00. All lunch money and checks are sent to the cafeteria prior to lunch. Birthday cupcakes/snacks are handed out during our lunch time. Snack is usually around 10:30. Something quick and healthy would be great! How can I volunteer in the classroom? On Parents As Partners Night, you will be able to sign-up for various tasks to do in the classroom or at home. There will also be room parents this year to assist with parties and special events. Please support your child when needed. Homework is intended to be another opportunity for your child to practice and build confidence. "Kid spelling"/phonetic spelling is acceptable and expected at this time, but you can write the correct spelling above the words if necessary. *The reading aspect of homework is very crucial for your child's reading development. You may do the reading or part of the reading as your child becomes more comfortable. How can I contact the teacher? If you have an urgent concern, it is best to send it in writing or call the office. I do try to check my emails daily, but am not always able to. What do I do if my child is absent? Please call the health office when your child will miss school and send in a note when he/she returns. Any missed work will be sent home with a friend or family member on the day of the absence or your child will bring it home when he/she returns. Can I send in a snack for my child's birthday? You may send in a snack for your child's birthday to be eaten in the cafeteria at lunch. It should be left in the office before 12:00. It's also a good idea to let me know so I can notify the lunch monitor. There are 22 students in the class. What do I do if I need to change my child's regular dismissal routine? A note is necessary if usual departure changes or if your child is attending the after school programs. Please let your child know ahead of time as well. What rewards can the students earn in the classroom? The students are aware of the class/school rules and review good character decisions weekly (if not daily). An individual incentive program is in place to promote appropriate conduct. Every day each cooperative student has the opportunity to earn a ticket and is given a chance during the week to trade these tickets in for a special reward (or save them). Here are the choices: 5 tickets= a candy, 10 tickets = a pick from the prize box, and 20 tickets= lunch with me in the classroom. Our mock gumball machine is an incentive used to reinforce appropriate behavior and responsibility as a class in the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, during recess, and specials. Each child's name is on a gumball in the machine and our goal is for everyone to remain in the gumball machine by the end of the day. When we have 10 days where it remains filled, we celebrate our team work by doing something special. What consequences can the students expect in the classroom? A student who is given several verbal reminders, but continues to have difficulty correcting their behavior will have their name removed from the gumball machine. If the student does not show improvement, he/she cannot have his/her gumball placed back in the machine and will not be eligible to earn a ticket for the day. If the inappropriate behavior continues, the student will have a check placed by his/her gumball which = 5 minutes off recess time. If the student continues to disrupt the class, another check will be placed by the student's gumball which = 10 minutes off recess time. A note is sent home when a student misses any recess time. This note needs to be signed and returned the next school day. If a student's behavior is consistently inappropriate and disruptive, Ms. Platz will be contacted and further action will be taken. The following rules were created and discussed in class. *Raise your hand *Use an indoor voice *Respect each other *Always try your best *Never give up What are the room mothers responsible for? Usually, I have the room mothers help me with the parties throughout the year. We will meet before each party to set a date and plan the activities. Each party usually has a craft, a game, and snacks. The room moms will receive a copy of the party sign up list and contact the parents who signed up for each party. Only those who have signed up may attend the parties and donate food items unless more help is needed. The class party $ is used when needed. Any left over money is used toward our end of the year picnic. |
