*Quote of the week by Altin-"I am thankful for math."
*Monday is day 4 and is a half day (no lunch, recess, or special)
*REPORT CARD CONFERENCES continue on Monday
*Happy birthday to Altin and Simrit who celebrated their birthdays this month!
-We had a wonderful Thanksgiving party on Monday. The class looked very
festive in their Pilgrim and Native American hats. They enjoyed making their
turkey craft, sharing what they are thankful for, eating lots of yummy
snacks, having a cranberry race, and listening to a story. Thank you to the
following parents for volunteering their time and talents-Mrs. Klosen, Mrs.
Baginski, Mrs. Beal, Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Borba, and Mrs. Heinemann.
-Our trip to the Bardavon last week was great. Our class sat right up front
to enjoy the show. Your child may now be interested in taking out some of the
Peguin books. Thank you to the following parents for chaperoning-Mrs.
Borba, Mr. Lepore, Mrs. Holze, and Mrs. Murray. We hope you had a wonderful
bus ride!!!!
-In reading we are blending consonant sounds together with short vowels as
well as adding new "trick" words to our word wall. This week we reviewed the
following word wall words-goes,does,school,there. Each day we practice
reading, skywriting/spelling, and putting these words in a sentence. We
continued our whole group reading with the story "Big Brown Bear". We made a
tree map of the story elements-characters, setting, problem.
*Each week we read a new story and practice the vocabulary words for that
story, as well as reviewing the vocabulary from previous stories. The
students keep a word bag in their desk to practice. The word bag will be sent
home after a group of stories. Also, Mrs. Heinemann comes in on Monday to
review vocabulary words with each student.
-Our poem of the week was "A Thanksgiving Chant ". We recited it each day and
used it to review rhyming, short vowel sounds, contractions, words with
suffix s, and word wall words. We also discussed our favorite Thanksgiving
foods!
-In writing, Mrs. Neevel did a lesson on naming words. We looked at a
Thanksgiving picture and listed all of the "nouns" on our circle map. Some of
the naming words even had the more than one suffix. Then we wrote about the
picture using some of the naming words. Mrs. Neevel also brought in pumpkin
bread for us to taste. We described it using our senses and sparkley words.
As always, we used these words in our writing about the bread.
-The class continues to work independently on their center work, solving
problems, and working as a team when necessary. Please look over your child's
center packet. There may be areas to review, correct, or finish.
-In math we continued practicing addition. We practice by starting
with the greater addend and counting on from there with our fingers or by
visualizing the smaller number in our head. We call it our "quick way" of
adding.
-In social studies we discussed the first Thanksgiving and read about Native
Americans and Pilgrims in our Weekly Readers.
-We have the following states on our U. S. map.....
Georgia,Missouri, Maine,Iowa,Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Wisconsin, Louisiana, Indiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and NEW YORK!!!!
*WE DID IT AGAIN!! The class earned a reward for earning 5 more states on our
map. Way to go room 4!!
-Things to practice....shoe tieing and zippering..
Please continue to check your child's folder each night. Continue to work on
your homework packet and have a wonderful extended Thanksgiving weekend with
your family!
*If you have any old puzzles that you're ready to part with, I would be happy
to take them off your hands. I think anything under 100 pieces would work. We
use them during free time and indoor recess.
