*Monday is day 3-Music
                       ***Happy New Year!!!***
-Our class holiday/winter party was on Monday, December 21 @ 2:15. The kids
had a fantastic time making their snowman mobile craft, snacking on yummy
treats, and playing games. Thank you to the following parents who joined us
and contributed to our party-Mrs. Klosen, Mrs. Heinemann, Mrs. Attwal, Mrs.
Bogdan, Mrs. Sherwood, and Mrs. Sherri.

-On Monday morning, we also had our 3rd annual Holiday Gala. The kids had
latkes and applesauce after listening to a Hanukkah story, made party masks
for 2010, made a placemat with the colors of Kwanzaa, and decorated sugar
cookies while singing some Christmas carols. Thank you very much to the
parents who supplied and/or prepared items for us.

-Tuesday morning we had the pleasure of listening to Christmas carols sung by
a group of very talented high school students. We lined the hallway and sang
along.

-After cleaning up on Wednesday, we enjoyed watching "The Polar Express"
based on the book.
***The following was done last week and continued this week.***
-In reading we are blending consonant sounds together with short vowels as
well as adding new "trick" words to our word wall. This week we practiced
consonant blends and digraphs (sh,wh,th,ch)and reviewed the
following word wall words-should,could,would,came,and someone. Each day we
practice reading, skywriting/spelling, and putting these words in a sentence.
We continued our whole group reading with the story "Moving Day". We
discussed why some families need to move and how it feels to move.
*Each week we read a new story and practice the vocabulary words for that
story, as well as reviewing the vocabulary from previous stories. The
students keep a word bag in their desk to practice. The word bag will be sent
home after a group of stories. Also, our vocabulary mom this month is Mrs.
Bogdan. She will come once a week to review vocabulary from the story of the
week.

-Our poem of the week was "Surprises". We recited it each day and
used it to review rhyming, short vowel sounds, contractions, words with
suffix s and ing, consonant blends, and word wall words.

-In writing with Mrs. Neevel we continued working on our "small moment"
books. She also read a Santa story to us. After, we wrote letters to Santa in
our journals.

-In math we continued our review of addition facts. When we return we will
begin a unit on place value (tens and ones).

-We were very busy in the afternoons creating your holiday gift and card-as
well as writing about winter.

-We have the following states on our U. S. map.....South Carolina,West
Virginia, Georgia,Missouri, Maine,Iowa,Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania,
Maryland, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Indiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and
NEW YORK!!!!

-Things to practice....concept of right-left, shoe tieing, and zippering..

-We usually go out in the winter, so please send hats, gloves, and scarves.
The kids are not permitted in the snow, so snow boots are not necessary. If
your child wears them to school, please remember to send shoes as well.

Please continue to check your child's folder each night. Continue to work on
your homework packet and return it on the due date. If you need extended time
to complete the homework, just let me know.
*If you have any old puzzles that you're ready to part with, I would be happy
to take them off your hands. I think anything under 100 pieces would work. We
use them during free time and indoor recess.
