*Quote of the week by Jack-"I saw the swine flu."
*Monday is day 5-Library and PE
*Wednesday-school is closed due to Veterans Day
-In reading we have finished our review of letters and sounds. We are now
practicing to blend these sounds together with short vowels as well as adding
new "trick" words to our word wall. Check out our short i word family
booklet. This week we reviewed short vowel i and word wall words
walk, talk, saw, with, went. Each day we practice reading, skywriting/spelling,
and putting these words in a sentence. We continued our whole group reading
with the story "I Went Walking". We used a bridge map to match the color
words to the animals in the story. We practiced 's as a suffix and as a
contraction.
-Our poem of the week was "Veterans Day". We recited it each day and used
it to review rhyming, short vowel sounds, sight words, and the upcoming
holiday.
-In social studies,we began a unit on families. In writing, Mrs. Neevel will
be helping us make a family book. She read a family related book to us and
had the kids list what a family is/does on a circle map. Then the kids chose
3 members of their family to write about and listed them on their family tree
map. We will be working on this book project for several sessions while
learning about families.
-All of our guided reading groups have begun-as well as centers. The
class continues to work independently on their center work, solving
problems, and working as a team when necessary. Please look over your child's
center packet. There may be areas to review, correct, or finish.
-In math we continued practicing addition. Although we had an assessment on
this unit, we will continue to practice adding strategies.
-We have the following states on our U. S. map.....
Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Wisconsin, Louisiana,
Indiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and NEW YORK!!!! The kids also
checked their tickets again.
-Things to practice....shoe tieing and zippering..
Please continue to check your child's folder each night and have a
wonderful weekend!
*If you have any old puzzles that you're ready to part with, I would be happy
to take them off your hands. I think anything under 100 pieces would work. We
use them during free time and indoor recess.
