HOMEWORK HELP
Establish a set time for doing homework - Children need and respond to
routine, doing homework the same time each day will lessen resistance.

Provide a comfortable place to do homework - Be sure the area is free of
clutter and distractions (away from TV and music).

Ensure all supplies needed are at hand.

Be close at hand while your child does homework - Let your child know that
you have a real interest in what they are doing and that you are available to
help if needed.

Help your child if needed but do not do the work for them -
No matter how tempting it can sometimes be, make sure your child does his/her
own work.
Homework is given to provide practice in a task that has been learned and to
ensure learning has taken place. If a child is having difficulty or is taking
too much time to complete assignments be sure to let the teacher know. Guide
children to answers if necessary.

Encourage good work and study habits - Help your child to study for tests by
asking questions and reviewing work. Even if the child knows the material
well do some review. Studying is a habit that they will need for years to
come especially as material becomes more difficult.

Be sure assignments are understood - Have your child call a classmate if they
are not sure what they are to do. Help them to be responsible for their work.

Praise your child - Everyone loves to have a job well done, let them know you
care and are proud.

 Ideas for Success
Show an interest in your child's school and schoolwork.
These days not everyone has the opportunity to volunteer at school but if you
can do it! Show your child that it is important. If you can't volunteer show
an active interest in what your child is doing. Look through their work, ask
questions about what they are doing in school, who are their friends, etc.

Praise their work.

READ and encourage Reading - Reading is a crucial part of your child’s
curriculum. Encourage your children to read each day. Read to your children
and ask questions about what was read. Read yourself and share articles from
the newspapers or magazines with your children to peak their interest and see
the importance. Read and discuss ingredients of food items.

Everyday Math
Have your child help in the kitchen using recipes. When shopping, have
children help with prices and discounts.
