Our Discipline Plan gives every student the opportunity to manage his or her
own behavior in order to successfully meet the challenges of first grade. To
encourage students to follow the classroom rules, I reinforce appropriate
behavior with praise, stickers, positive notes or calls home, special
privileges, and special treats. If a student chooses to break a rule, these
are the consequences:
Blue Card- 1st time= Warning.
Yellow Card- 2nd time= 5 min. off of recess.
Orange Card- 3rd time= 10 min. off of recess and student writes note home to
parents about rule broken.
White Card- 4th time= 15 min. off of recess and call or note home to parents
which needs to be signed and sent back to the teacher.
* If the students stay at a Green Card- "GO GREEN"= doing a great job.
* The students are aware of these consequences and know their responsibility
in the classroom. The rules are always posted in the room and you may review
the rules with your children by clicking on the "Class Rules" page.
* The class also has an opportunity to earn rewards as a group. Room 5 is
working together on "Going Green". This means that if all cards from all
students stay green on a given day, the class earns a piece to the "Reward
Puzzle". After 12 pieces to the puzzle are put together and the puzzle is
complete, then the class earns a very special reward given by Mr. DeLorenzo.
This is a way to practice teamwork in the class and working together toward a
positive goal! Another way Room 5 can earn a class reward is by working
quietly as a class, walking nicely in hall, helping each other, listening and
following directions as a class, practicing good behavior during a fire drill
etc. If the class does a nice job with these tasks, they are rewarded a
lollipop that is placed in a reward cup. After the cup is filled the class
votes on a reward based on a variety of choices (ex: extra recess,
movie/popcorn, ice pops...). The choice with the most votes by the class is
the reward given to the class...and they also get the lollipops from the cup.
Then we start all over again!
