Computers/Study Skills Syllabus

COMPUTER/STUDY SKILLS SYLLABUS 


A.  Study Skills - Introduction to the fundamentals and tools necessary to 
make study efforts effective and beneficial.

1.	Learning and using available resources
2.	Time Management
3.	Improving Concentration/Critical Thinking
4.	Memory
5.	Learning Styles
6.	Reading Comprehension and Studying Textbooks and information
7.	Note Taking/Outlining
8.	Test Taking

B.  Computer Skills 
1.	Microsoft Office.  (The student is introduced to a wide array of 
Microsoft Products used for Word Processing, Presentation Creations, Data 
Collection and Analysis)  Basic typing and word processing skills will also 
be addressed.
2.	Introduction to the World Wide Web.  (The student learns to browse 
websites and search for organized information.)
3.	Introduction to Windows (The student is exposed to the various 
functionalities of the Windows Operating System)
4.	Computer safety and protection.  (Anti-Virus Software, Secure 
Servers and Sites)
5.	Basic computer maintenance.  (Essentials to keeping your computer 
safe and clean)

II. Homework Expectations: Your daily homework will consist of keeping an 
organized and detailed log of your other classes assignments.  Homework pads 
will be checked once a week at the  beginning of the class and will count as 
10% of the student�s grade.

III.    Grading Procedure

A.  Quarterly marking periods:
1.  Exams/Projects	   70%
2.  Homework Pad           10%
3.  Class participation    20%

IV. Behavior: Nothing but courteous behavior, as outlined in the 
Student/Parent Handbook, toward teachers and classmates will be tolerated.
