Course: THE 2500 (75231) History of the Church Saint John's University Fall Semester 2008 Teacher: Mr. Daniel O'Keefe, M.A. Text: Triumph: The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church by H. W. Crocker III, Three Rivers, New York, 2001. Location: Cathedral Seminary Residence of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston, NY Purpose: The purpose of this course is to provide a view of the origin and development of the Roman Catholic Church from the establishment of the Church until the Protestant Reformation. The course will begin with Pentecost. Emphasis will be placed on major themes in history as well as on individuals who have marked each historical period. Attendance: Attendance will be taken for each class. All absences need to be explained and documented. Please submit in writing any excuses for absence. Grading System: Each candidate will receive a letter grade for the course based on the standards established by St. John�s University. The grading system is as follows: A = 4.0 B+ = 3.5 B = 3.0 C+ = 2.5 C = 2.0 D+ = 1.5 D = 1.0 F = 0 Grades will be based on chapter quizzes, the presentation of a written paper, a midterm, and a final exam. Exams: When a chapter reading is due, a quiz will start the class. Quizzes are based on the required reading from the text. The midterm exam will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2009. The final exam will take place on Thursday, December 10, 2009. Midterm and final dates are according to the St. John's schedule.
