Theology 10 X and Y

Course Description:
This course provides the students with a basic introduction to the study of
Sacred Scripture.
Among topics studied in the Old Testament will be some major theological
themes which run throughout the Scriptures:
1. Salvation
2. Revelation
3. Covenant
4. Worship, Liturgy, and Prayer
5. Law and Morality
Within the New Testament, the student will be introduce to the Four Gospels
and major writings and grow to know the Person of Christ Jesus as He reveals
Himself in Sacred Scripture.
The purpose of the second year Theology course is to help students reflect on
and grow in their own faith, their personal relationship with God, and their
relationships with others through reflection on the major events, people, and
themes of the Bible.
Text: You Can Understand the Bible by Peter Kreeft (Ignatius Press: 2005)
Homework assignments: Every student is expected to read the assigned chapter
and do a one page summary of the reading.
Exams: There will be an exam every two to three weeks. Exams will be
objective questions, multiple choice and essays.
Quizzes: There may be occasional quizzes, based on reading from the text.
Grade Breakdown:
80%: Exams and Quizzes
15%: Homework
5%: Class Participation
All homework will be posted on this page.
Students must bring their Bible and their text to every class, as well as
their notebook.
Term Paper: Each student is expected to do a three (3) page typed,formatted
research paper, follwing proper format, on an assigned topic from the Bible.
The paper, worth a test grade, is due in the third quarter.
Duval Essay: Students are expected to participate in the Annual Duval Essay.
The Essay will be on a topic assigned later and will be worth a test grade.
