Cush, STL Course description: This class examines the rich history of the comic book and graphic novel in the United States. We will examine the technical side of the art (writing, editing, penciling, inking, lettering, coloring) as well as the rich, complex modern mythology created by such companies as Marvel and DC. The influence of comics on the popular culture will be examined and a detailed reading of two contemporary graphic novels will occur. Required Texts: Please note- students MUST buy these texts and have them present with them in class to discuss the novel: 1. Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons 2. Civil war by Mark Millar 3. Superman-Batman: Public Enemies by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness 4. Green Lantern: Rebirth by Geoff Johns All novels are available in ALL bookstores (for example, Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc.) and online at amazon.com and not just in Comic Specialty stores. You may also buy used copies of these books online for considerably less than cover price. My suggestion is to buy all three novels online, in used editions ASAP.
