Quiz on Friday on Class notes Theology III: Foundations of Christian Morality Instructor: Rev. John P. Cush, STL Text: The Essential Moral Handbook: A Guide for Catholics by O'Neill and Black. Liguori Press. 2006 Course Description: This class intends to introduce students to the foundations of Catholic Morality as found in Scripture, Tradition and Magisterium. Following an outline provided by the Ten Commandments and The Catechism of the Catholic Church, the student will hopefully be able to integrate the teachings and laws of the Church into his own lived experience of faith. PLEASE NOTE: This year, the class will conclude material begun in Theology II: Scripture by studying in the first quarter the Gospel of John, Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles of Paul, the Catholic Epistles and the Book of Revelation. Grade Breakdown: 20% Homework and Participation; 80% Quizzes, Exams and Papers. Required Materials: Students are to have a marble notebook. Homework: All homework will be posted for the quarter on the Instructor’s website. All homework comes from the assigned textbook. It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with the homework. Duval Essay: In the third quarter, the student will participate in the Annual Duval Essay. The grade for the student’s Duval Essay will be counted as an exam grade for that quarter. Papers: There will be at least one (1) three (3) to four (4) page essay assigned each semester that will count as an exam grade. Each essay must be typed, double-spaced, 3-4 pages in length. Essays will be graded on content, grammar, spelling, syntax and style. Essays must be handed in on the assigned due date. Failure to do so will result in a loss of 2 points each school day. No e-mailed homework will be accepted. I must have a print copy of your essay. Exams: Each quarter will have at least two exams. Material will be based on both the text’s assigned readings as well as class notes. Quizzes: There will be a quiz each week that an exam is not administered.
