Read to Self-using book bins, the students will learn how to choose "Good fit"
books and practice reading to themselves during each session.
Word work- students will be using their weekly spelling words to complete
these independent activities: rainbow words, sailboat spelling, 5x each on a
white board, Playdoh spelling to name a few.
Read to Someone- students will read with a partner. They will be checking for
understanding in their partner's reading when they are the listener. Partners
will also be a reading coach and will offer reading strategies to help their
buddy.
Work on Writing- free choice writing topics. Some include: response to a book,
letter to a friend or teacher, writing topic the student is interested in.
Listen to Reading- students will listen to stories on tape. Each week there
will be a new story added to the collection. Students may also choose to
listen to a story again. During this time, a response to the story can also be
made, as well as, an illustration. Some story responses include: "MY favorite
part is...", "I liked the story because...", or a summary of the story.
