The studio is already "buzzing" with busy artists at work. Many of Cottle's kindergarten artists are learning about the "studio" routines. Here are a few examples of what Ms. Derbin is talking about:
First thing my students do OUTSIDE the studio is line up on the silver line. They LOOK and SOUND ready when Ms. Derbin comes out to greet them; if they don't look ready she goes back inside and reappears when she thinks her students are ready.
Upon entering the studio the boys and girls then check out the "studio schedule" on the blackboard next to the smartboard at the front of the room. Each class for the day is listed with class code, time and period...Ms. D. writes small clues as to what will be covered that day. She will usually review what happened the week before benefiting those who were absent and clarifying activities for those who were present.
Students take their seats and work can begin....more to come!
