KINDERGARTEN- "KANDINSKY COLOR STUDY" Students will be studying the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky. They will focus on his life as both an artist and musician. Also, these young artists will explore concepts of color and how it relates to emotion as well as correlating Students will be using a new Crayola product called Twistables which is a very soft wax, high intensity color crayon. Each individual art project will become part of a class wall quilt at the end of the unit. FIRST GRADE- "3-D TROPICAL FISH" Students will be exploring the colorful world of tropical fish. They will be doing research on the art room laptops which will include searching for their perfect colorful fish to reproduce in three-dimensional form using Crayola Model-Magic clay. This medium is easy to manipulate and does not make a mess on tables or clothes. Students will also be introduced to color mixing. The design properties of shape and form. SECOND GRADE- THIRD GRADE- "WAYNE THIEBAUD CAKES" Students will be studying the Pop Artist Wayne Thiebaud. Parents or children may want to visit YouTube and view "Wayne Thiebaud-CBS Sunday Morning Show" to see the artist and his work. Students will be learning to draw a circle in perspective and how to color and shade with oil pastels. The design elements of color, pattern and shape will be introduced at various stages of this project. FOURTH GRADE- "DIFUSSING PAPER DRAGONS" Students will be studying the art form of the dragon using Chinese & Japanese artists as reference. These ancient drawings will be used as a reference for the focal point of the design. These dragon drawings will be applied to a difussing paper that will be "washed" with metallic watercolors. FIFTH GRADE- "POOR MAN'S GILDING" A folk art technique called Poor Man's gilding which was used in Lithuania & Poland. It was originally used to decorate religious objects when gold became to expensive. Students will be creating modern optical illusion line designs thin natural wood sticks. The design elements of line and spacing will be featured in this project. SIXTH GRADE- "POSTAGE STAMP DESIGN" Students will be creating a original design for a postage stamp that is based on one of the United States. They will be asked to create a SIMPLE Symbolized design that represents their respective States. The design final will be placed on life-like postage stamp paper that measures 9"x12". The design will be colorized with Sharpie markers. SEVENTH GRADE- "LANDSCAPE ON BLACK" Students will be doing research on the Art room laptops to select a landscape reference that be used as a starting point for their landscape drawing. They will be introduced to basic perspective drawing as well as the theory of color perspective and shading. They will be using a combination of basic color pencils and metallic color pencils to complete their design. Their landscape will be executed on black paper. EIGHTH GRADE- "ART HISTORY IN A BOTTLE" Students will using a empty wine bottle to create a 3D painting that emulates a famous artist. They will be transferring their favorite painting by this artist to the curved surface of the bottle using oil paint pens. Students will have to also use the paint application technique that this artist was famous for. At the end of this project each student will prepare a short three paragraph report of their artist that will be rolled and fashioned as a "cork" of the bottle.
