Do I need to send in a snack for my child?
Saltine crackers and milk are provided for the students every
day. You may wish to donate other items for the snack cupboard.
Napkins and snacks can be sent in any time during the year. Boxes
of crackers, pretzels, popcorn, fruit,& jello cups are good
ideas. We will save sweet treats for birthdays and parties. The
whole class will share the same snack. Please do not send
individual snacks for just your child.
How does lunch work?
Students may purchase a school lunch (including milk) for $1.50
(some students may be eligible for free or reduced lunches).
Menus are printed in the monthly DES Digest. Students may also
bring their lunch to school. Milk can be purchased for $.45
(chocolate milk $.50). Our class will go to lunch/recess at
10:55 and return at 11:40.
Can my child bring in toys from home?
Due to the possibility of loss or damage, toys should not be
brought to school unless requested for special activities. Our
class does not have the typical show and tell day where children
are allowed to bring items to school. We share each day during
our Daily News time. The children are encouraged to share orally
and in written form throughout the day. Communication is always
a high priority in kindergarten.
How do I contact the teacher?
You can write any questions, comments, or concerns in the
communication notebook that will be provided for you.
You can leave messages on my voice mail, 429-3155, ext.1227. I
will return your call as soon as possible. This method should
not be used if it is an emergency. If I must receive a message
before dismissal, please let the elementary secretary know.
You can e-mail me at ccrisman@dolgeville.org.
What time does school begin?
Doors open at 8:00AM. Students are marked tardy if they arrive
after 8:10AM.
What time is dismissal?
Kindergarten dismissal is 2:55PM. If you will be picking up your
child after school, please be on time. Children become worried
if they are not picked up at the scheduled time.
Is there a breakfast program at school?
A breakfast program is available in the cafeteria every morning
at 7:45 AM. Your child will need to go directly to the cafeteria
when he/she arrives at school if he/she wishes to have
breakfast. Breakfast is $1.00 (some students may be eligible for
free or reduced breakfast).
What if my child is absent?
It is helpful if you can call the school nurse to let her know
that your child will be absent that day and the reason for
his/her absence. A written excuse is required from you EACH time
your child is absent, tardy, or to be dismissed early.
Can I visit the classroom?
You may visit the classroom at any time if previous arrangements
have been made. All visitors MUST sign in at the reception desk
before coming to the classroom.
Can I volunteer to help in the classroom?
If you have any special hobbies ot interests you would like to
demonstrate to the class, or if you would be interested in giving
an explanation of your occupation, please let me know.
When are parent/teacher conferences?
Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled after the first marking
period. If you have questions or concerns and would like to meet
with me before this, or any time during the school year, please
contact me and we can schedule a convenient day and time.
What is a communication notebook?
A notebook will be provided for you. This will be sent to and
from school every day. I will try to write to you at least twice
a week in the notebook letting you know how things are going for
your child. You may respond and/or write any comments or
questions you have for me in the notebook as well. The notebook
ensures that communication will all be in one place.
What other items does my child need to bring to school?
A paint shirt is needed for art clases and projects in the
classroom. A large t-shirt works well. Paint shirts should be
labeled and may be left in the classroom.
Your child will need a backpack or book bag to carry home papers,
projects, and the communication notebook. I prefer backpacks
without wheels. Backpacks with wheels do not fit in the cubbies
in the classroom. Please go through your child's backpack every
day. The folder that is provided should be emptied and put back
in the backpack ready for the next day's paper and projects.
Sneakers are required for gym class and recess EVERY day. An
extra pair may be left in the classroom.
Do I need to label my child's things?
All clothing, backpacks, and lunch boxes should be labeled
clearly with your child's name. Many children do not remember
what they brought to school. Please help them (and me!) by
labeling everything.
What if my child needs to bring money to school?
I will be providing each child with a Ziploc bag that may be used
for carrying money to school. Please send all money to school in
this bag (or change purse or envelope with your child's name on
it). If the money is for something other than lunch, please
enclose a note explaining what the money is for.
Will my child be using computers in school?
The children will attend Computer Lab each week. This will begin
in October. We also have computers in the classroom for the
children to use during center time.
Will there be a rest time?
We have rest time each afternoon. Rest mats are provided. We do
not use pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals.
