For over 30 years Mrs. Hemmerich has enjoyed her profession as a Registered
Nurse. She has worked in many different jobs since graduating from Hartwick
College in 1979 with a bachelors degree in nursing. Some experiences
include Medical/Surgical Nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Public Health
Nurse specializing in Maternal Child Nursing at the Fulton County Nursing
Service, and 3 years as the School Nurse at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central
School. Mrs. Hemmerich is a member of the School Nurse Network and the New
York State Association of School Nurses. One of her favorite sayings
is "Because Nice Matters". Assisting Mrs. Hemmerich in the nurses office is
a familiar face- Mrs. Judy Millard. She helps out in the morning and
at lunchtime- and is always willing to lend a helping hand and do whatever
is needed. Smiles are readily shared!!
"School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that
advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of
students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses
to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and
potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively
collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation,
self-management, self-advocacy and learning." National Association of
School Nurses, 1999.
