Homework

  • Each week I will assign homework in spelling and math. These assignments are important to reinforce the skills taught in class. I will also send home a word list of vocabulary words for the week. Reading and discussing the meaning of these words at home will help prepare your child to work with the words at school.

  • Learning spelling words requires children to spend a lot of time working with the assigned words in order to internalize spelling patterns. Math skills are strengthened by repeated practice. Nightly assignments will review what has been taught in class as well as provide repeated practice of basic math facts. Each second grader is expected to read for 15 minutes each night.

  • Nightly Homework Schedule

Monday Night: Math Sheet

Tuesday Night: Put the words in alphabetical order. Write five sentences using at least five spelling words.

Wednesday Night: Math Sheet

Thursday Night: Write each spelling word 3times each. Study for Friday's test!

  • Although we will review the homework in class, it is important for you to read the directions together at home. Please help your child with any problems he or she does not understand. When the assignment is done, review it together to make sure all words are spelled correctly, problems are solved accurately, and your child's handwriting is neat. Homework is due the day after it is assigned. If your child is unable to complete his or her homework please send me a note explaining the problem. Homework should take no longer than 40 minutes to complete, including the 15 minutes of reading.
