* Notice if a word has multiple uses and try to come up with the meaning in
this context, based on uses we are already familiar with. (ie. Network.
Kids might say Ive heard of TV networks, or The internet has something
  to do with networks.)
* Use prior knowledge to apply to the context of the unknown word.
* Identify the meanings of a prefix or suffix.
* Identify a root word and its meaning.
* Look at other words that you know in the word that you do not know. Use
all the words around the word, the context, as clues to the meaning.
* For two word terms, pull the words apart and define each separately. Put
those words back together in their context and decide on the meaning For
example, cash crop. Each word is defined separately and then applied to
the context and understanding of colonial trade. Cash = money, Crop =
something grown. The meaning of the term in the context of colonial
economy is a crop grown for economic gain or trade.
