Homework

* Howework is handed out to children in the form of a packet with all the
Classwork and Homework for the week. I have found that this helps the
children budget their time in case of Sports, CCD etc. It also makes
catching up with work during absences a lot easier.
* Expect Math and Language homework daily and Social Studies and Science
  assignments weekly.
* There will be a Social Studies or Science test or Quiz most weeks. Ask
your child to see the review sheet on Monday so he or she can study
  a little each night.
* I am giving the children time to do a good portion of the New York
Weekly assignments in school. They must be completed at home by the
  date they are due.
* Children are to keep the HW packet together, bring it back and forth to
school every day and work on it daily. Children must finish anything that
is marked to be done on a daily basis that day. The rest of the work
may be completed at your child's own pace. The homework packet is handed
out on Mondays and is due back the following Monday, which gives your
child the weekend to complete it. Notice that the packet starts with a
letter from your child to you. You may write back. I encourage you to
write back. Having a homework packet for the week has many
advantages and has worked out quite well.
* There will be Vocabulary and Spelling tests weekly. Ask your child
for their study papers and be sure they are preparing for them.
* The children will be responsible for finishing and improving writing pieces
started in school on a daily basis. Ask to see your child's writing journal
  often.
* Children must free read independently for at least 20 minutes at home
daily. This is part of their homework.
* New York Studies Weekly assignments are given weekly. The children will
have a week to get the work done. They are included in the Homework
  packet.
* See "Documents" for our '06/'07 Word Wall. This is a compilation of many
of the vocabulary words the children will learn this year as well as
examples of many of the word study lessons and spelling rules we will
  cover.
