To all of Mrs. Burke's students and their parents/guardians,
Mrs. Burke is very happy to be teaching back in the district she attended
and graduated from. Go Patriots!
She received her Bachelors of Science of Education from SUNY Oneonta and
received her Master's in Education with certification in Special Education
from the College of New Rochelle.
This year marks her eleventh year teaching and she is very excited to be
teaching fourth grade again. This year is going to be full of many
adventures as the class explores the history and current events of the
Hudson Valley from Paleo-Indian times up through the Erie Canal era (1825-
1850s)through present day. Her favorite subject is Social Studies, but she
loves to teach all of the subjects and watch her students light up with
enthusiasm while learning.
Mrs. Burke, her husband, her 6 year old son, David, and chocolate lab named
Toby live in Pleasant Valley.
She enjoys going for walks with Toby, going on nature hikes, reading, and
getting together with friends, and kayaking.
You also will catch her watching a Yankee game or two.
Her favorite food is Spanish/Mexican food.
Her favorite snack is popcorn.
She is allergic to all dairy and wheat products.
Last, but not least, she plays the flute and piano, but unfortunately not
often enough.
A note to Mrs. Burke's students:
Well enough about Mrs. Burke. Now take the fun "quiz" that you will
find in the Homework Assignment section and see how much you learned about
your teacher.
The fourth grade class in Room 210 will learn in a positive environment
where everyone has a voice to share and work together.
Each child will be taught fundamental skills in math, language arts,
and reading. The academic, organizational, and social skills students
learn in this class will help them throughout their academic career.
Lessons and activities will be best developed for the levels and abilities
of each student for every child to succeed and reach their highest potential.
Social skills will be taught and modeled so the children learn how to
respect each other, cooperate, and understand everyone has different
strengths. Also, they will understand that they are responsible for
themselves. Our class motto is "Each day is given to you to use to the
fullest or throw away and the choices you make effect how successful you will
be." Also effort is a key factor and our motto is "Good, better, best.
Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best!"
