What Does the PTA Do?

In addition to holding monthly meetings, the Evans PTA provides
events both cultural and fun for the students like the annual Sons
of Pitchs( SOPs) Concert, the Story Crafters and the Tanglewood
Marionettes. We also coordinate family activities including Family
Movie Night, Special Dances and the Holiday Gift Shop. We sponsor
the Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) Program and this past year,
the Evans PTA donated almost $2,000.00 in books to the individual
classroom's libraries. In the year 2005-2006, we have equipped
each classroom with 2-way radios to enhance student safety.

But How Do We Pay For All That?

PTA programs are partly funded by membership fees, but fundraisers are also
used to help finance our efforts. We held various fundraisers in the
previous
year like Sherwood Forest Greenery, Spring Plant Sale, Breakfast with Santa
and Halloween Fun Night. In addition, we sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair in
the Fall and Spring at Open House. We also participate in the Box Tops for
Education and Campbells Labels for Education program.

What Is a Typical Meeting Like?

The meetings are subject to the James S. Evans PTAs bylaws, as well as the
bylaws of the Wappingers and The New York State Congress of Parents and
Teachers, Inc Council. The meetings allow parents to get questions answer
and
concerns addressed. We are privileged to have our Principal with us at each
meeting, as well as a teacher liaison to represent teachers needs and
concerns

PTA meetings begin with approval of minutes, followed by reports from
various
Board Positions. Old Business is then discussed where applicable and new
business is introduced. Guest speakers sometimes attend meetings to
enlighten
parents on such topics as homework, discipline, special needs, gifted &
talented education.
