Hi, My name is Mrs. Seehase. I have been a teacher for about 20
years. I began teaching First grade in New York City and then moved
to Wappingers where I taught First grade at Evans. My classroom was
what is now the Library. The conference room was the teachers' lunchroom!
I took time off from teaching to raise three wonderful children with
my husband,Hans. During this time,I also acquired a master's degree in
Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz. When our youngest child was 5
years old I returned to teaching at a private school where I taught
kindergarten for 8 years. I began working in Wappingers in 1990 as a
Developmental Learning Specialist ( D.L.S.) and then went on to teaching
kindergarten and first grade. I love working with children.
Our class is excited about learning how to read. We review letters
and their sounds every day and are beginning to learn how to read
simple words. We are also learning about the importance of following
directions; practicing bus safety and fire safety will help us in
case there is an emergency. There are so many rules to learn! Being a
good listener really helps! Our class enjoys writing in their
journals every morning. Sharing the stories we write is so much fun.
We have to remember to read loudly and clearly. Our goal is to
become great writers. Math is exciting,too. Making patterns and
sorting is becoming so easy. Our goal for math is to learn how to add
and subtract just like our big brothers and sisters! We are all very
good at "COUNTING ON". We can add numbers like 15 + 6 with no
problem. Science is very interesting. We learned about properties of
objects and soon will be learning about Venn diagrams. Did you know
that all of the children in our class are scientists? We are becoming
experts at observing and organizing, important skills of all
scientists.Stay tuned for a new update!
Well, it's time to fill you in on what has been happening in our
class. We now know how to use the addition and subtraction
strategies," counting on " and " counting up"...no problem for us!!!!
We also learned about liquids, solids and gasses. They are all matter
but have some similar and dissimilar properties. Hibernation is also
one of the topics we studied when learning about the behavior of
animals in winter. Did you know that bears really do not hibernate??
What's next??? The study of hermit crabs. We will be learning,in great
detail, all about the habits of land hermit crabs,including what they eat and
where they live.
