Hello, School is well under way; teachers and students are getting adjusted to
the rigors of 5th grade. As you can see by the schedule below our first
subject is special. Please have your student arrive in a timely manner, the
special teachers need the full time alloted to instruct their curriculum.
The daily schedule will be as follows:
8:50- 9:10 Arrival
9:10-9:50 Special
9:55-10:40 Reading
10:40-11:15 Math in Mrs. Risley's room
11:20-12:350 Integrated curriculum through reading and writing.
12:40-1:10 Lunch
1:30-2:15 Social Studies
2:20-3:00 Science
3:00-3:25 Recess
Computer Day 5 @ 1:50-2:30
Library Day 1 @ 11:45-12:25
Chorus Days 2 & 5 @ 2:50
Band Thursdays @ 1:10-1:40
In Social Studies we will be reviewing map skills, geography and government.
We will review many of the topics introduced prior to 5th grade so it will be
important for students to take careful notes. Social Studies Weekly will come
weekly and questions will be given for each week.
In Science we are studying the Scientific Process(more complete) and using the
tools of a scientist. Students are completing experiments and creating lab
reports.Grades will be taken from throughly completed lab reports and quizzes.
Lookfor a test soon on vocabulary and the Scientific Process right away.
Reading groups will begin soon. Look for simple reading comprehension
homework 3 to 4 times a week.
In Language we will continue to develop writing skills and writing for
purpose. Spelling will be weekly with a test on Friday.
