Fundations: Unit 15 overview: We will continue with our vowel teams. This unit, I will teach the following spelling options: oo, ou, ue, and ew. Unit 16 overview: This is the last unit that will focus on a vowel team. I will teach the spelling options: au and aw. Unit 17 overview: This is our last unit in Fundations Level 2. This unit will focus on the syllable called, consonant-le syllable (ex: bicycle and bugle).With every unit, a unit overview letter will go home with your child. This letter will provide you with more information about the unit and includes activities that you can complete with your child for additional reinforcement of the skills.The children have learned all cursive uppercase and lowercase letters. This month the children will practice cursive by writing words with both uppercase letters and lowercase letters.Shared Reading: Our shared reading for the month will include reading stories that will support our ELA, Science curriculum, Social Studies curriculum. In addition, our shared reading will include review for the ELA exam.
Guided Reading and Learning Centers: During Guided Reading instruction, the children will attend curriculum based learning centers. These centers will support the development of reading skills, comprehension skills, computer technology skills, writing skills and math skills.
Language Arts: Our writing activities will be supported by our Science Unit (Animals and Plants) and our Writer's Workshop Unit (Realistic Fiction). Language Arts will also include the continued development of sentence writing, verbs, nouns, adjectives, spelling, contractions, synonyms, homophones, analogies, proofreading skills, grammar and the mechanics of writing.
Unit: Science/Social Studies: We will be completing our unit on Animals. The children will get an opportunity to share their animal reports and masks with their classmates. We will also begin our unit on plants. The children will learn about the parts of a plant, including the seed, what plants need to grow, how they grow and ways people use plants. We will continue using our workbook People and Places Nearby to support our Social Studies Curriculum. The workbook chapter will focus on our world neighbors. Character Education: This month we will complete our Second Step program. This month's lessons will focus on: anger management, dealing with criticism, dealing with being left out, and dealing with consequences.
