How can I contact Mrs. Tand?

If you need to get in touch with me you can always call
Fairfield at 308-5300 and leave a message with your phone number.
I will return your message as soon as possible. You can also
email me at
jtand@msd.k12.ny.us. I will try my best to respond the same
day or call you regarding your message, however sometimes I am
unable to do so.

How do I become a Magnet class parent?

Each Magnet class has 2 class parents. In the beginning of the
year you will receive a notice which asks if you would like to
volunteer to be a class parent. If more than 2 parents are
interested, we will have a lottery.

Throughout the year I will need to call upon other parents to
assist with other activities in our classroom. If you have a
specialty or an area of expertise that you would like to share
with our class, please indicate that on the Phone Chain form.
There is plenty of opportunity for you to be involved with this
program because I welcome your input!

What is Schoolwide Enrichment and how will it effect my child?

The Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) is a program in its fourth
year at Fairfield. It was a great success over the past few
years thanks to the tremendous parent and teacher support!

The model, designed by researchers Joseph Renzulli and Sally
Reis, encourages enrichment opportunities because of the belief
that "a rising tide lifts all ships." At Fairfield, we now have
the Magnet program in addition to SEM. The classroom teachers and
myself collaborate on higher level thinking activities and
extensions to add to the curriculum for all students. We
also work to differentiate learning opportunities so that more
students' needs are being met.

How often is the website updated?

This website will be updated on a weekly basis. Please bookmark
http://www.MrsTand.com so that it is easy to access. Homework for
each Magnet class is usually posted on the day it is assigned.
Check back on Sunday night to see if there is any important news
for the upcoming week.

What is the purpose of the Documents section?

The Documents section is designed to help parents remain involved
and also encourage student accountability. If there is an
important permission slip or form that was sent home, it will
typically be posted to the Documents section so that it can be
downloaded and printed at home if it got lost in transit.

In rare instances a form or worksheet is unable to be posted to
the website. In this instance, it is the student's responsibility
to get a copy of the worksheet from a friend or from me before
the next class.

What can I do if I forget my Magnet binder in school or am absent?

If your child is absent, please check our website first. You can
find out what the homework is and typically download any
important notices that were sent home or new project outlines.
Checking the website should not take the place of calling a
responsible friend to find out what was missed in class.
Students should have the names and phone numbers of 3 responsible
Magnet Buddies in their regular classroom planner so that they
are with them at all times.

If you are unable to get a copy of a worksheet from the internet
or a friend, it is your responsibility to see me and get the
information BEFORE the next Magnet class. We only see each other
for a short period of time and if I give homework it is important
that it is complete for the next class.

I am in Room 24 and there is a Mailbox on my door. If I am not
in the classroom when you stop by, leave me a note requesting the
work that you missed. This lets me know that you were responsible
and stopped by.

I was absent on the day a project/permission slip was due. What do I do?

I understand that we all get sick occasionally. If you are
absent on the day that something is due, please make sure that
you hand in the project on the day you return to school.
Do not wait until the following Magnet class to turn in an
assignment. You can leave it in my mailbox on my door.
