Safety Issues 2009-10

Safety Issues for the 2009-10 School year

As we prepare for a new school year, school safety continues to remain at the
forefront. Periodically during the course of the school year I plan to write
you about safety issues that involve our students and staff.

Listed are several items I am asking visitors to pay special attention to:

ALL Parents and guardians that visit the school during the day must sign in.
This is to protect the students.

If you are planning to drive your child(ren) to school, it is important that
you pull up to the front door during arrival time. Each year I notice cars
dropping off children when they could have pulled up closer to the door. When
that happens, some cars are stuck out on Route 9 waiting to get into the entrance.

Modular Procedure: The doors facing the parking lot are for exit only for the
Modular. If anyone wishes to visit the students in any of those classrooms,
they MUST sign in at the office!

During the fall we are required to do eight fire drills, (four in the morning
and four in the afternoon). During the course of the school year the students
will need to participate in bus, lock down, evacuation, and high wind drills.

o A Shelter Drill is held to protect the students and staff in the event of
extremely high winds or an earthquake.
o A Lockdown Drill is to protect students and staff against an intruder.
o The classroom teacher will discuss the purpose of these drills to the
    students.
