FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Do the children need a snack every day? YES! Please send a nutritious snack such as fruit, cheese, granola bars, etc. We will plan to eat snack in the afternoon. Snacks will be stored in a central location within the classroom, so please clearly mark your child's name on his/her snack. Can my child bring a water bottle? Yes. During these hot days, a water bottle on each desk is very helpful. Please send one that won't spill easily. I do ask for health reasons that your child bring home the bottle at the end of each day if you plan to reuse it. Can my child have a birthday party in school? Yes. Please check with me for a good date. You may send in cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc. The children also enjoy juice at parties. We need 2 cans or 1 large bottle of juice. Please send napkins and cups too. Thank you! What about the celebration of birthdays outside the school year? Our class will celebrate summer birthdays throughout the school year. I will identify the upcoming birthday celebrations in our class newsletter. What happens to the school schedule when there is a snow day? If we have a snow day on day 1, the day that we return to school will be day 1. This is important so that you will know when it is a Phys. Ed. day. Do we go outside for recess during the winter? Yes, we go out most days, unless the temperature is too low. The children need boots and snowpants to go off of the blacktop. What can I do at home to help my child with READING? Read to your child every night. And, if they are readers, have them read to you! Label your child's room with index cards. For example, write the word door on an index card and place it on their bedroon door! Play games with these words. What can I do at home to help my child with MATH? There are tons of ways you can make math fun at home. Be creative! Remember to use objects so that the activities can be hands on. The more senses (hearing, touching, seeing) they use the faster they will learn! Should I be concerned about backwards letters and numbers? Writing letters and numbers backwards is common in first grade. Just point it out to your child and have them fix it. This will come with time and age! Should I be concerned that my child is not completing all of his center work? During centers we focus on the process, not the product. If students worked hard during centers but didn't have enough time to finish, that's fine. |
