Mrs. Kretz-Harvey is able to provide counseling services to interested
students. All information shared during a counseling session is strictly
confidential. If a student is having a crisis, has a problem in or out of
school, or just needs to talk , they should stop by to schedule an
appointment. Appointments can be scheduled directly with Mrs. Kretz-Harvey or
through Mrs. Forbes in the high school guidance office.
Sessions usually last approximately 30 minutes (or the length of a study
hall). They can also be scheduled after school if a student does
not have time during the day or would prefer not to meet during the day.
Counseling services can be provided on a drop by basis or scheduled as
consistent weekly or bi-weekly meetings.
Individual counseling sessions can focus on a variety of issues including,
but not limited to, academic issues, organization problems, emotional issues
(e.g., anxiety, stress, feelings of depression, etc.), attention problems,
behavior issues, immediate crises, a death or illness that is impacting the
student, and social issues. The sessions will be tailored to the specific
situation.
Group counseling for certain issues may also be available. Interested
students should discuss their interests with Mrs. Kretz-Harvey, Mr.
Hirschbeck, or Mr. Michalak. If you are interested in
counseling services, would like to request a counseling group for a
particular topic, or would like to request a referral for an out-of-school
counselor, please stop by the guidance office and ask to see one of us.
*If a student's needs are beyond the scope of what can be offered in the
school setting, require intervention by a specialist of another area, or the
student/parent does not feel comfortable with the student receiving
counseling services in the school, the student/parent will be referred to
outside counselors. Recommendations for outside counselors can be provided
upon request.
